Sailing Cameo

Marnee and Blaine Life aboard SV Cameo Anchored somewhere new

About Us

We’re Marnee and Blaine — or “the Blarnees,” if that works for you.

We’re just like most people… except we live on a boat and travel for a living. SV Cameo isn’t a vacation or an escape — she’s our home, our office, and our front-row seat to a world that rewards curiosity.

Marnee

Marnee grew up in a small farm town in central Washington, where hard work and looking out for others wasn’t optional — it was just life. She spent much of her career caring for the elderly before transitioning into teaching high school.

Patience, empathy, and the ability to calmly manage chaos turned out to be excellent preparation for both life at sea… and for meeting Blaine, for reasons that will soon become obvious.

Blaine

Blaine grew up on the west side of Washington in a backwoods town, where curiosity tended to wander far beyond city limits. Early on, he read The Odyssey and became determined to find the lost city of Troy.

Naturally, he did almost everything except that on the way. He joined the Army at 17 and has rarely had just one job since — from choker setter in a logging company, to sound engineer for bands, to more side hustles than can reasonably be listed.

Eventually, he earned a teaching degree, taught for a few years, then went to law school. After graduating, he came to a simple conclusion: land was overrated.

How We Became “Us”

We met the old-fashioned way: online… and then in a bar. It’s a classic story of boy meets girl, then fakes it till he makes it.

We have three kids together — all grown, graduated, and living their own lives — which gave us the freedom to start writing the next chapter.

Why Sailing?

Our long-term goal is to circumnavigate, but we’re in no hurry. If we like a place, we stay until we’re bored. If tomorrow we decide we miss dollar taco night in Sint Maarten, you might find us spending three days at sea heading the wrong direction.

This journey isn’t about schedules or finish lines. It’s about freedom and exploration — in that order.
